  • What are the main services that you offer?
At TME, we mainly offer manuscript editing for fiction (minimum 5,000 words), nonfiction (minimum 10,000 words), and academic writing (minimum 15,000 words) at slow turnaround times. For rushed orders and files below 5,000 words, we recommend that you use 1-Hour Proofreading.
  • What is the maximum size of the file that I can attach to my order?
The maximum file size is 5 MB. If your document size is higher than that, then we recommend that you share your documents via any safe cloud folder sharing app.
  • Where can I see my document’s word count?
For MS Word files, the word count is displayed at the bottom of your screen on the app. If you don’t see it, right-click the status bar and click Word Count. Make sure there are no highlighted words in your document to obtain a more accurate count. For PDF files, we suggest converting them to MS Word format to get their word count.
  • What kind of file formats do you edit?
We prefer MS Word files, but we also accept PDF files. A minimum surcharge is added on other text-formatted documents. We do not edit image files.
  • What will happen if I incorrectly input my document’s word count?
Our delivery managers will assess your documents as soon as we receive your order. Any discrepancy in the word count will be invoiced to you (if applicable). We will proceed with processing your order and will leave out the excess word count until we receive your payment confirmation. Otherwise, you may also request for us to reverse or cancel your order.
  • I’m not finished with my book yet. Can I submit it in chunks?
Yes. You may submit parts or sections of your manuscript while you are still working on it until you have completed your manuscript. For this, you have to be in any subscription plan and choose the No Genre (Free Flow) - Buildup service.
  • Do you offer other services than manuscript editing?
We also offer essential publishing solutions such as book formatting, typesetting, book cover design, and a few others as services or add-ons. Please see our service list for reference.
  • I don’t know the type of manuscript that I wrote. What service should I choose?
For any unknown or unsure genre, choose the No Genre (Free Flow) service. The editor will let you know what genre it falls under in their commendation or critique.
  • How do I place an order?
Start by creating a profile and logging onto your dashboard after verifying your credentials, and just follow the instructions when you click New Project.
  • How many services can I post in one order?
You can only select one service per order, but you can add as many add-ons as are available relative to your order.
  • How many documents can I attach in one order?
If you are signed up as an Individual, you may only attach and submit one document per order at a time. However, you may attach as many references needed relative to your manuscript. If you are a Company, you may attach several documents in one order. The ETD for a bulk order is calculated based on the total word counts of all the attached manuscripts. All documents are assigned to different available editors. If you prefer only one editor to work on all of your documents, you may let us know.
  • Can I submit an academic manuscript?
We only accept theses and dissertations with a minimum word count of 15,000 words. For other academic papers such as essays or similar documents with less than 15,000 words, please use the 1-HourProofreading.com platform.
  • What specific style guides do you use?
We are adept in different style guides, such as the Chicago Manual of Style, Oxford, APA, and Harvard. If your document requires a specific style guide, we will adhere to your requirements. Please do not forget to specify which style guide you want us to use in your order.
  • Do you perform fact-checking?
Yes. Fact-checking is a part of what we do in the process of copyediting but not in proofreading.
  • Can I be assured of the confidentiality of my documents?
Yes. The confidentiality and security of your documents are important to us. All of our editors are committed to our NDA, and we assure that your manuscripts are not sold to or shared with any third-party organizations or applications. We also implement an automated purging schedule of all processed and delivered documents every 30 days.
  • What manuscripts do you work on?
Our editors are adept at various kinds of manuscripts, such as novels, novellas, short stories, nonfiction, academic theses and dissertations, poems, and other literary creations.
  • How do you address ESL documents?
We address ESL documents with extra care. As this is more difficult to process at times, we require the full cooperation and urgent attention of our client should we have several questions.
  • Can I see the changes made by the editor?
Yes. We use the Track Changes feature of MS Word so you can see the changes made by our editors.
  • How will my document be returned?
Your document will be returned via the platform within the ETD. You will receive a notification when your document has been accepted or reversed, processed, and delivered. You will receive a tracked copy and a clean copy of your edited document.
  • What is a manuscript critique?
Our manuscript critique service provides a comprehensive evaluation of your manuscript, offering valuable insights and constructive feedback to enhance its overall quality. The editor will give you an objective and unbiased perspective, giving you a fresh and critical view of your work from professionals with a keen eye for storytelling.
  • How do I see tracked changes in PDF?
PDF files are marked up using the commenting tools of Adobe Acrobat. Changes appear on the right side of the document.
  • What is your usual turnaround time?
Our turnaround time depends on the type of the manuscript, word count, and service selected, starting at 3 days. You will see the actual ETD (estimated time of delivery) when you create an order.
  • What if I want to send regular work but I don’t like your current payment method?
We recommend that you sign up for our TME Premium subscription, where you will enjoy exclusive discounts, unlimited book cover designs, and other perks we have to offer.
  • Do you offer any promotions or discounts? How can I qualify for them?
You can get your monthly promo code by subscribing to our mailing list. You can also follow us on our social media for announcements on seasonal discounts and other promos.
  • What payment methods do you accept?
We accept credit card and PayPal payments.
  • What happens if you fail to deliver my document on time?
We sometimes experience unforeseen and unexpected events that may cause us to be late, such as force majeure, power outages, bad connections, and annoying technical issues. We will compensate you on your next order by giving you an exclusive discount.
  • What if I am not satisfied with your edits?
We adhere to quality and timeliness, so delivering documents on time without compromising quality is an important rule within our editorial team. We urge you to return your manuscript with a complete note of what we might have missed. If you’re not satisfied with your order, you may return it within 48 hours of delivery, and we will review and re-edit it if necessary for free once your claim is validated by our lead editor. Any changes or additional text added to the originally delivered documents shall be subject to additional fees.
  • Why is the Build-Up turnaround time longer than that of Genre Unknown?
Build-up editing is designed to cater to sections that are part of a whole manuscript. Ideally, each section is expected to be less than 5,000 words. It is not recommended to choose the Build-Up option for a finished manuscript.
  • What is premium service subscription?
Premium service subscription provides you a more flexible manuscript editing service where you can submit your manuscripts in sections until you are done with it. Being a premium subscriber gives you more perks and discounts.
  • What is build-up editing?
Build-up editing is our process of editing any manuscripts “in the works.” We edit each section that builds up the continuity of the manuscript before it is completed. Once all the sections are complete, we run a full manuscript pass to ensure the consistency and flow of the structure of the manuscript. Definition: Build-up editing is a meticulous editorial process that involves refining a manuscript by gradually enhancing its elements, starting with individual sections and progressively building up to the entire work. Holistic Manuscript Enhancement: This is a methodical editing process that aims to strengthen the manuscript as a whole through cumulative improvements made at the section level. Focus on Detail: This emphasizes attention to detail in each section, ensuring clarity, coherence, and overall improvement. Step-by-Step Refinement: This involves breaking down the manuscript into smaller segments, addressing issues, and refining content section by section. Sequential Improvement: This follows a sequential approach, working through the manuscript in a structured manner to achieve a polished and cohesive final product.
